The first Bite opened in a unique corner space on Bleecker and Lafayette in 2002 by Ami Melamed. With no more than five sandwiches on the menu, it was a bold move by a former fashion industry employee to start a restuarant which would one day offer one of the most eclectic menus in the city.
Born in Israel, Ami spent a great deal of his youth traveling around the globe which cultivated his appreciation of different cuisines and spices. From a simple Mediterranean sandwich to a Thai inspired curry, an Italian staple panini to a classic Moroccan appetizer, his travels influenced Bite's unique menu.
The ingredients at Bite are fresh and simple, with absolutely no preservatives. The bread is baked fresh everyday by Balthazar bakery, the cheese is from Joe's dairy, the soups and the dressings are all prepared from scratch every day in our own kitchen. With great emphasis on customer service, Bite has made it a top priority to provide the best the city has to offer at a very affordable price while never compromising on flavor or quality. From vegans to meat lovers, vegetarian to gluten-free options, we aim to provide a variety of choices for every diet.
Bite's ambiance is relaxed and features the work of talented local visual artists and live music in our 14th and 22nd Street locations.
